L&P Convinces PTAB Not to Institute in Strategy, Inc. v. Web3AI Technologies, LLC, IPR2026-00223

Today the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a decision denying a petition for an inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent No. 9,218,574, titled “User Interface for Machine Learning,” which is owned by L&P client Web3AI Technologies, LLC.  

The IPR petition was filed by Strategy, Inc., which Web3AI  had sued for infringement.  Strategy was represented by Fish & Richardson in the matter. L&P filed a request for discretionary denial on March 27, 2026 and filed a waiver regarding a preliminary response on April 27, 2026.  On May 19, 2026, the PTAB declined to institute a trial.  L&P’s team in this IPR included Kevin Laurence, Matt Phillips, and Joe Hawkins with Kevin Laurence serving as lead counsel.
