L&P’s Pre-Order Paper Convinces USPTO Not to Reexamine Patent

Today the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) denied a request for reexamination of U.S. Patent No. 9,766,801, entitled “In-Car Information System, In-Car Device, and Information Terminal.”   The ’801 Patent, which is owned by L&P client AutoNavigare, LLC, has been asserted in several infringement lawsuits.  The request was filed by Unified Patents, the top filer of reexamination requests (by far) in recent years.  L&P, working with Validity LLC, a firm specializing in patent monetization strategies, filed a “pre-order paper” in response to the request, pursuant to a new procedure recently instituted by the USPTO.  The pre-order paper convinced the USPTO’s Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) to deny the request.  L&P’s team in this case was led by Matt Phillips and included Derek Meeker and Kevin Laurence.
